One of our youngest members of staff, Maisie Rutter, is celebrating after being invited to Buckingham Palace to collect her Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Nineteen-year-old Maisie, who is part of the sales team for our equine bedding easibed and poultry bedding easichick, will be attending the Gold Award presentation in the gardens at Buckingham Palace in May. She will be in the presence of members of the Royal Family and will be presented with her certificate and brooch for achieving the award.

It took Maisie 18 months to complete the Duke of Edinburgh gold award programme, which involved 12 months of volunteering, six months demonstrating a physical challenge plus three expeditions.

Maisie was part of a team  who completed the final four day challenge in the Lake District, spending one night in a wild camp and two further nights in basic campsites in the area. The team walked over 60 miles in tough temperature during the four days.

Maisie said: “The Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award was one of the hardest yet rewarding experiences I’ve ever done. It really helped my confidence and allowed me to grow and to believe in myself. The award taught me that I can push myself, I can achieve my goals. I would recommend the award to anyone. This was the best experience in my life so far.”

The Duke of Edinburgh scheme is the world’s leading youth achievement award which supports young people and is valued by employers and universities alike.

Congratulations Maisie! We can’t wait to see the photos of you at the palace.
